NEW! Election Results for 2004 House
and Senate races
The goal of the Children's Campaign Fund is to elect a more child
and family friendly legislature in Washington State. The Children's
Campaign Fund analyzes voting records, conducts interviews in select
races across the state, and solicits feedback from key stakeholders
to endorse candidates who will be champions for children. Contributions
are targeted to those races in which there are opportunities to
elect strong advocates for children, where the dollars can make
a difference, and where we can send a message that the well-being
of the state's children must be a legislative priority. E-mails
are provided to access each campaign in the hope that you will consider
volunteering.
As part of the endorsement process, candidates are interviewed
by Children's Campaign Fund board members. Some of the issues explored
in 2004 include the following:
- The state operating budget deficit in the 2003-05 biennium
and impact on children & families.
- The current state tax system and proposed changes.
- The soaring state health care costs, including Medicaid.
- Improvements to the state's child welfare system (e.g. Child
Protective Services and foster care).
- The impact of upcoming 5 year time limit for many families receiving
cash welfare.
- The accountability of adults for a child's use of their gun.
- Improvements to current juvenile justice system.
- Current law that requires a 60% vote and a minimum voter turnout
for school levies.
