Senate votes taken in the 2002 Legislative Session:

  1. HB 1144 WorkFirst Exemptions: Exempts TANF recipients with a child under the age of one from job search and work requirements. Recipients with a child between 3 and 12 months are required to participate in non-work activities such as parenting classes.
  2. HB 1444 Anti-Bullying: Requires each school district to adopt a policy prohibiting the harassment, intimidation, or bullying of any student.
  3. HB 2060 Affordable Housing: Enacts a $10 surcharge on the fee for documents recorded in county auditor offices, with the proceeds devoted to various forms of affordable housing.
  4. HB 2346 Uniform Parentage Act Revisions: Implements national changes to the Uniform Parentage Act, including enhanced procedures for the establishment of paternity
  5. SB 5965 Real Estate Excise Tax: Permits San Juan County to seek voter approval of a one-half of one percent increase of the local real estate excise tax, with proceeds devoted to affordable housing.
  6. SB 6368 Prescription Drugs: Eases access to prescription drugs for children and adults by directing the Health Care Authority to establish a drug education and utilization system to promote therapeutic and cost-effective utilization of prescription drugs by health providers and residents of Washington.
  7. SB 6833 Immigrant Medical Care: Eliminates the state-funded Medicaid program serving immigrants and transfers them to the Basic Health Plan, which has more limited benefits and requires premiums and co-payments. A vote for this measure was inconsistent with children's interests.
