My name is Shelby Silva-Martinez, and I am a child care provider, small business owner, and advocate based in Othello, Washington.
I have a background in early childhood and elementary education and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, along with multiple certifications in early childhood education, including Infant and Toddler Care. I am also a certified CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens instructor. My passion has always been working with children and making sure they have a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment to grow and learn.
But my work goes beyond my child care program. I am also the Professional Development Director with Proveedoras Unidas de Eastern Washington, where I help organize and support over 400 Latina child care providers across Central Washington. Through this work, I have seen firsthand the challenges providers and families face, especially in underserved and rural communities.
That is why I advocate for stronger child care systems, better support for providers, and more access for families. I believe that child care is essential, not just for families, but for our entire economy and future. I am passionate about making sure that providers, especially those from underrepresented communities, are seen, heard, and valued.
Everything I do is rooted in my commitment to children, families, and my community. I am proud to use my voice and my experience to help create meaningful change.
