2026 Legislative Champions for Children Awards Announced

Children's Campaign Fund is proud to honor five extraordinary leaders who have stood up for child care providers, early learning, and the families who depend on them. This past legislative session, their courage and commitment made a real difference and Washington's children and families are better for it. In the face of extraordinary pressure from federal cuts and a state budget deficit, these champions kept their priorities clear: children, youth, and families first.

 Lifetime Achievement Award

Rep. Carolyn Eslick (LD 39 - R) for a career dedicated to putting children first.

 Evergreen Champion Award

Sen. Emily Alvarado (LD 34 - D) for her Senate leadership on behalf of child care families.

Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self (LD 21 - D) for leading on HB 2219 and fighting to preserve child care funding.

 2026 Legislative Champion Award

Sen. Claire Wilson (LD 30 - D) for her leadership as Vice Chair of the Senate Early Learning Committee.

Rep. Debra Entenman (LD 47 - D) for going to bat to fund early learning and protect families who need it most.

To each of these champions: thank you for your leadership, your advocacy, and your unwavering belief that every child deserves a strong start. We are honored to stand alongside you.

We will be presenting awards at our annual Meet the Candidates celebration. Save the date for Sunday, September 20 to join us in celebrating these champions while meeting the candidates running to join them as champions for kids in the legislature.
